ZF Sachs Racing™ Damping System

ZF Sachs Racing Damper System

Racing teams around the world rely on dampers from ZF Sachs Race Engineering: From Formula One to the Dakar Rally, successful teams rely on ZF Sachs.

There are sound reasons for the superior technical quality of ZF Sachs dampers:

  • We apply our full range of experience and expertise from Formula One into developing our Matrix damper systems.
  • We work closely together with the racing departments of car makers and factory teams – participating in new developments from the very beginning.
  • We make full use of the Development Center in the Sachs OE Division for endurance tests and material research.
  • The system is based on the proven Sachs RD 45 racing damper with twofold adjustment, with top mounts of 0 to 4mm in length, as well as spring caps for all major racing springs.

The Matrix system is supplemented by the Sachs RD 36-2 racing damper. With performance values similar to those of the RD 45, it has been optimized even further for weight and size, which means it can be used where the RD 45 would be too large.

All system dampers are available with different damping force characteristics and adjustment ranges – allowing them to be adjusted to all individual customer requirements with full precision and reliability.

WRC: Hirvonen finishes season as vice champion

Ford driver Mikko Hirvonen has finished the 2009 season as the runner-up in the Great Britain Rally as well as with a second place overall in the World Rally Championship. The Finn whose Ford Focus RS WRC uses a clutch from ZF Sachs Race Engineering arrived at the WRC finale as the leader of the standings and just barely missed clinching the first title in his career. Two special stages before the end of the rally Hirvonen, who had celebrated a total of four wins in the 2009 season, was separated from the leader, Sébastien Loeb, by merely 18.2 seconds. But on the penultimate special stage Hirvonen lost 1,07.5 seconds because the bonnet of his car suddenly opened while the vehicle was in motion. On the last special stage the Finn still set a best time but had to admit defeat to Loeb in the fight for victory and the title by 1m 06.1s.

Besides Hirvonen, Henning Solberg and Mattew Wilson from the Stobart-Ford private team in places five and six scored a total of seven points at the extremely difficult dirt road rally in Wales. Hirvonen’s team colleague Jari-Matti Latvala was classified in seventh place. All drivers of a Ford Focus RS WRC rely on high-performance clutches from ZF Sachs Race Engineering in the World Rally Championship.
