Performance VW Magazine ZF Sachs Performance Clutch Feature

We were approached by David Kennedy, staff writer on “Performance VW” magazine, to give our recommendations for a high performance clutch that would handle the additional torque achieved form his re-mapped Tdi engine. The common problem he was experiencing was the clutch/flywheel shuddering under load, and from his experience, Sachs Race Engineering offered the best solution to this problem, based on the number of tuners and owners using this kit. So we advised that with his level of tune, it was still advisable to stick with dual mass flywheel, mainly for comfort reasons, and he would need an up-rated Sachs clutch cover, matched to a rigid organic drive plate, which gives a virtual OEM pedal response, but is rated at 407 lb/ft torque when used in combination with the up-rated organic drive plate. On higher torque applications Sachs now have a complete billet steel flywheel and clutch module, but due to the loss of the dual mass flywheel a little more vibration transfer from the engine can be expected, but the flywheel will never fail, which can be a problem with the dual mass flywheel, when subjected to high torque loads.

The article from Performance VW followed the installation of the clutch and flywheel, and David's thoughts on initially driving the car post fitment.
