ZF sachs Intro

ZF Sachs Formula

Sachs develop shock absorbers and clutches that are specifically tailored to meet individual customers’ needs.

Each clutch and damper is optimized down to the last detail, and produced uniquely for the customer. Sachs’ developments set new standards in all classes – from touring car contests, rallies and sports prototypes to the Formula One series. For the carbon clutches, they use only high-grade materials such as high-strength steel and titanium alloys or aluminum that meets aeronautic specifications. New carbon friction materials improve start-up performance and reliability. Thanks to their special design, the advanced rotational dampers enhance the response and driving performance of Formula One racing cars. They also save space and weight, which considerably enhances vehicle aerodynamics.

Formula 1: Button World Champion for Brawn with ZF Sachs dampers

Jenson Button and Brawn GP celebrated winning the title at the sixteenth and penultimate round of the Formula 1 World Championship in Brazil. Fifth position at Interlagos was sufficient for the Briton to build an unassailable points lead before the finale in Abu Dhabi.

His team mate Rubens Barrichello, who dominated the opening stage of the race, dropped down to eighth position due to a tyre failure.

Just like the Brawn GP team race car, which won the championship title in its debut season, the BMW Sauber F1 team cars are also equipped with ZF Sachs Race Engineering dampers. Robert Kubica scored his best result of the season in second place behind race winner Mark Webber and, in doing so, equalled a previous second place scored by the German-Swiss squad this year.

Kimi Räikkönen took the chequered flag in seventh for Ferrari. His race car is also fitted with dampers produced by the German technology company. The Toro Rosso of Swiss driver Sébastien Buemi in seventh position is equipped with dampers and a clutch from Schweinfurt.
